Picture books are typically
- 32 pages when published.
- 24 pages and a word count of 500–1000 words.
- Manuscripts are generally submitted as Word documents, double-spaced, in 12pt Times New Roman, with page breaks.

Early reader (5–8 years)
Early reader books (ages 5–8) bridge picture books and chapter books, typically featuring 32–48 pages, a maximum of 1,500 words, and frequent, large illustrations. Formatting requires short, simple sentences (12–20 words), large sans-serif fonts (14–24 pt), and wide spacing to aid readability. Key elements include relatable plots, frequent dialogue, and often, chapter structures.

Middle Grade + (8 –13 years)
Middle grade (MG) manuscripts should be 25,000–50,000 words (up to 60,000 for fantasy). Use standard manuscript format: 12pt Times New Roman, double-spaced, 1-inch margins, and indented paragraphs. Focus on relatable protagonists, fast pacing, and shorter chapters, typically 1,000–2,000 words, to keep readers engaged.
