We're excited to announce that we're launching a brand new children's brand this year! To bring our brand to life, we're looking for new, talented writers to create a variety of books. Specifically, we need writers for three different series: a 12-book series for preschoolers, an 8-book series for children aged 5-8 years, and a 6-book series for children aged 9-12 years. If you're someone who loves to write or illustrate for children, we'd love to work with you!
If you are asked to write one of these books, we will be offering remuneration. This amount is currently lower than what we plan to pay writers in the future. However, if the book becomes successful and you decide to write more fiction with us, we can discuss increasing the payment.
Please submit a 500-word original story or a fresh take on an old one to info@lunaedenpublishing.co.uk or to our short submission page (this story will not be used in a publication, and the author's rights will be asserted). If your submission is selected, we will contact you with a story synopsis for you to develop.
*Please note that Luna Eden Publishing and its partners will hold all rights to the story, and your name or pen name will not be credited. However, you will receive compensation as agreed upon. We look forward to receiving your submission.
We are pleased to offer £40 for black-and-white illustrations and £80 for colour illustrations, and these rates are non-negotiable. This opportunity is tailored for emerging illustrators who wish to make an impact in the UK market. While we will certainly credit your work in the books, it's important to note that there will be no *profit share from the sales. If interested, please forward your details to us at info@lunaedenpublishing.co.uk—we look forward to hearing from you.
Picture books must be short and follow strict word count rules. The standard text for a picture book is 24 pages with a word count of 100-600 words. To draw the reader in, it's best to focus on a single character's experience. When planning a story, choose a POV character that makes the story interesting and avoid featuring multiple characters. Every word counts in picture book writing. Remuneration: £30 - 50.
Early readers have slightly more text than a picture book (1000-3000 words) with 32 to 64 pages and simple, repetitive text. When writing for early readers, keep in mind that your book may be one of the first they will ever read. You should aim to make their experience enjoyable and make them want to come back for more. Using repetitive words and phrases, and incorporating rhyming words or similar-sounding words can help build their excitement for reading. Remuneration, £100 - 150.
Typically, lower middle-grade word counts are from 10,000-15,000 words. However, this number is dependent on the subject being written about as well as the age of readers, as middle grade encompasses a wide age range.
When writing a longer book that targets 10 -12-year-olds and falls into the "tween" category. Upper middle-grade books typically have a word count of 20,000-35,000, and serve as a bridge between early reader books and young adult books. We are looking for 15,000 - 20,000 words. Remuneration, £500 - 750.
We will be offering remuneration. This amount is currently lower than what we plan to pay writers in the future. However, if the book becomes successful and you decide to write more fiction with us, we can discuss increasing the payment.
